Anyone know if I would have to remove my nail polish for surgery? I'm having a mani/pedi before I go in and wonder if I should forgo the polish. First world problems. ;)

No nail polish:). So they are able to check capillary refills if necessary

I wore nail polish. No one even questioned it.

In order for the finger pulse ox to work. One finger should be free from nail polish. At Teachamy maybe they used an ear probe on you.

I called and asked the OR dept and they said no problem with having polish.

I wore gel polish on my fingernails and they put compression stockings on my legs that covered my polished toes. My surgery was in Tijuana, MX.

Ask. I had read all these warnings on here so I asked and they said sure no problem. The pulse ox worked and they didn't need to check my toenails bc I had the pulse ox

I was told that as long as the polish on your nails isn't super dark then you're fine.

I'm not sure what they "probed" when I was under anesthesia--I believe I had a similar experience with aliens once.(LOL!) but I was in the cardiac ward and was hooked up to so many tubes and wires, I lost count. I did have a finger monitor attached at times.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
