How do you FEEL during the lap band experience?

Recommended Posts

I don't know that it keeps you from falling, but since you are truly not hungry eating this way, it just becomes habit, or "normal" for you. I still feel thrilled that I can eat this way, and that it is enough, and I feel good, and am losing weight. I no longer think about food a lot, but when I tell someone how I eat, or what I relate it too, like I did you--I still get that zip of enthusiasm you refer too.

I love my band!!!

In terms of energy, I can say that after losing about 20-25 lbs - very early on - I found myself walking down the hall one day and I realized that I was walking with an energetic bouncy gait - FAR from the crouching limp that I had previously called walking.

The pain in my knees and ankles was all but gone and I felt about 20 yrs younger. The added joy was in knowing that those pounds are gone - not coming back in three months like they would have before.

I eat literally everything that I ate before - even the occasional glazed donut (carefully!) - and I never ever have that gnawing, driving need to eat. Usually, I eat a couple of donut HOLES and I am satisfied. Not at all like the old days when a half a dozen donuts was the standard serving size for me.

As for PB's - they can and should be avoided. It's a matter of keeping your band at that "Not so tight" stage and exercising JUST a LITTLE self control. It's much easier to do, now. I have to consciously diet to lose weight - but when I DO eat the proper foods, when I DO exercise, I lose about a third of a pound a day - consistently. A nice, steady loss. When I fall off the wagon - I find that I maintain that loss over time until I am ready to focus on diet & exercise again.

Banding is the smartest choice I ever made for myself.

Good Luck in your deliberations.

Renebean: You are an inspiration. I loved reading about how you walk with an "energetic bouncy gait". I am so happy for you and your lighter body!

Thank you!@

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
