nothing like that has happened to me either, but I do hiccup or burp when it is time to stop. so maybe those are my triggers. are you doing anything different when your eating? I am learning to slow down really alot and when I get those hiccups it is time for me to stop...even though I might not feel I am done...they tell me I'm done. hope you know its different for everyone!!! glad we could chat!!!

I've been banded 11 months, am green, almost at my goal and I haven't felt any of the soft spots. I just sorta know when I'm done and if I eat after I get that feeling, I'm sorry afterwards. Everybody is different.

The satiety signals for me are usually a burp or hiccup. Occasionally it's a runny nose. But I usually stop when I'm not hungry any longer which is the Numero Uno satiety signal we should all look for. imo

I get a little, quiet burp when it's time for me to stop. If I ignore it, I get the big, wall-shaking belch that clears a room....and some unhappy minutes to boot. So, I have learned to slow down and listen to my body.

It's not so easy to find the soft stops since they are body functions that we don't necessarily associate with eating.

When I yawn I usually think not enough sleep tired..not that I'm done eating. When my nose runs I instantly think OH NO here comes a cold!

However since being banded I have had just about all of things happen uncharacteristically while I was eating, and then shortly after if I kept eating I knew uh oh that was the soft stop and if I stop now I'll be nose to nose with the brick wall. If I don't take my foot off the gas, yep I've crashed into and sometimes through the brick wall and after I feel as if I have!

Eating too far past those subtle signs is no fun! I've been there I know. The feeling will go away but while it's there....UGH is about all I can say.

When I'm not sure of the "sign" I'll take a moment or two before taking another bite.

I'll give an example,

last night we were at a 30th anniversary. The food was pretty good, I made a plate a bit of this and a bit of that, and I ate slowly. As I got to the end of the meal, there was some peppered steak left, I had a bit of chicken parm, a forkful or two of zitti, and a meatball. That was a lot for me. I actually have a cold and sinus infection so when my nose started to tingle and feel like it was tissue time...I stopped for a second.

You can't blow your nose with a mouthful of food ever notice that?

That was my sign, it was time to stop eating. Hubby who is also banded said you don't feel well? I said no it's not that, I have had enough. He looked skeptical, and the person who made the pepper steak had to be sitting at our table! They thought I didn't like it. So one more bite to show...OK it's not your food. Then the hiccups started, I had had enough!!

Later that night they had coffee and cake...ugh. Of course you have to have a bite of it right?! WHY.....so I had a bit cause my step son and his girl baked them so we had it. UGH there was that feeling!!! I had past my limit! It felt like you might feel after eating a large meal and getting on a roller coaster just that UGH feeling. Not nauseous not stuck just UGH.

for me the runny nose is a sign that I over ate. the hiccough is a sign that I ate just the right amount. any pain means I either over ate or I am stuck on something. the pain and slime goes hand in hand for me. Water that I accidently gulped and filled my pouch can make me slime. it is important to figure your fill spot. pay close attention to how you feel when you have taken in a cup full of food, of course most of that cup should be solid. I still have trouble allowing my brain to tell me when I have had enough. especially if I am really enjoying what I am eating.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
