Is it ok to eat baby food during the soft stage and blended stage? I go to surgery 10th of April and I'm doing my grocery shopping I'm wondering if I can get baby food stage 1 or 2 , carrots, squash, green Beans etc...I think this would be easier than preparing them myself. What other things should I have ready when I get back from the hospital.? Im a single mom, will have very little help because I just moved here 1 year ago and I have no family that lives near. Im stocking the fridge for the kids but any ideas as far as for me, will be greatly appreciated.

Do you think you can stomach it? Ugh. Don't think I could've handled that.

Check with your dr but most approve baby food in purees. You will be sick of it pretty quickly, though LOL.

I agree with Maltese gal, check those jars for the carb count and read the ingredients list to see if there is any added High Fructose/ regular sugar added. You're going to be eating such small portions that you have to get the most nutrition you can per bite. Any added sugars are going to have little nutrition value.

Baby food is fine but I opted for blended Soups, malt o meal (thinned with some chocolate Premier Protein shake, Protein Shakes, canned carrots are easily smashed with your fork, mashed potatoes w/ cream of chicken thinned with Unjury chicken broth, no sugar added applesauce, sf pudding, sf Jello, etc. Much more appealing to me. My doctors not all that concerned with carb count that first month when you're doing all you can to just get food in.

I tried baby food... it tastes terrible!

I've tried it before when I used to give it to my kids..I liked the carrots and the squash..LOL... But they say your taste buds change so who knows if I'll like it after surgery. I just need ideas for my grocery list for post op. I don't know if I'll be able to drive around for the first week. :-)

My nutritionist actually informed me about baby food. The veggies anyway, she said I could season them to taste. Hope this helps and good luck!!

Well I took a look at the baby food. The first stage food has very little carbs etc...and they come in little jars which is great because we can't eat much anyway...I think I'll be buying a few.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
