At the hospital waiting room for my pre op

Recommended Posts

Just got back from spending the day at the hospital too. Lab work and a preop nutrition class today. How did the endoscopy go?

I just had blood drawn and went to a class led by a dietician about eating and supplements. There was one girl who seemed so overwhelmed! She should be on BP reading!

My surgery is actually on Wednesday at 2:45. I'm on day 4 of my 5 day clear liquid and Protein Shake diet.

Glad all went well Maltese Gal! I'm from Florida but will be heading to Mexico for my surgery in several weeks. I'm on my high Protein low carb diet for the next 2 weeks, then a full liquid for the final few weeks. I have no doubt my liver is the size of a small rhino's, so I gotta work hard to shrink that bad boy down! Best of luck to you also Jess + honeybunz!

Silly question, does anyone know if hospitals ever do these on Saturdays? I'm only asking because with summer coming up we want to take a couple of long weekends if possible and I want to conserve my PTO wherever possible. I work M-F but I'm able to move my hours around if that's what I end up needing to do :)

Where I work, weekends and holidays are emergency procedures only.

Thanks! I'm sure that is the way it is here as well. Never hurts to ask. But it will be worth using the PTO for!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
