Aside from keeping you hydrated (which is fairly important! ;)), it helps the digestive process and a number of other ancillary benefits. http://www.onemedical.com/blog/live-well/6-benefits-of-staying-hydrated/

I still have a difficult time remembering to drink enough Water (I just forget!), but just gotta make it a point to do so.

Good luck! :D

The fat only has one way to exit your body...through Water. You must pee or sweat. I always stall if I don't drink enough water.

Does more Water increase weight loss success?

Not by itself. Water is good because it helps the plumbing, but you still need to eat a balance diet. Whether you strive for the 6-8 eight ounce glasses, or 64 ounces a day water is good for weight loss, better skin & hair. There is such a thing as water toxicity but that's an extreme condition that requires much more water than any of us who have had WLS could possibly drink.

At a recent pre-op support group, the RN explained that every 2 lbs of fat requires 8 lbs (?) of Water to process it out of our body. Since the body uses up the glycogen in our muscles first, we need to drink the equivalent of 8 lbs of water to convert the equivalent of 2 lbs of adipose fat to energy the body can use once the glycogen is used up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
