OK, So how am I supposed to handle going out with my new Son In Law and his family for dinner Saturday nite. They are going to Red Robin. I looked at their menu, and they do have an onion Soup which I can take the cheesy cover off and it's got beef stock under it. Would that be ok? Sheesh. Or should I just take my bottle of Water with some sugar free flavor in it?

Also, I think I may be drinking too fast in general. Is that possible at this stage?

Thanks,

Merrillee

The french onion Soup minus the bread and cheese on top is a good option just be careful with bits of onion. Other than that you can order a non carbonated beverage, they won't allow you to drink something that you brought in with you so the water bottle idea won't work. If your surgeon said full liquids is ok you can even order a small milkshake if you don't mind the calories. Other than that you are pretty much looking at beverage city. One of my favorite things to do if I need to be on liquids for some reason and we are going out for a meal, I order a hot chocolate and that always makes me feel satisfied and pampered.

Of course, I would LOVE a shake, but that's a lot of sugar, not to mention my Dr. has us off all milk products, as well. We'll just have to see what they can mix up for me that's sugar free. I'll bet I'm not the only one in the world that's needs sugar free.....

That's interesting about no milk my surgeon tells 16oz of milk each day and that is supposed to be our only liquid calories. I choose yogurt instead though and only have one, I'm such a rebel, lol. And yes shakes are super high in sugar, but I was told that during the first 2 weeks I could have anything that I could suck through a straw and that while he didn't want me to have a shake a day that I could have one if I wanted because I wa in the healing phase. He wasn't concerned about weight loss yet. If worse comes to worse they can always bring you some herbal tea, they might even have broth.< /p>

Absolutely, the onion Soup broth is acceptable! I ask for that with "mostly broth and no bread/cheese". That is what I order when I get a fill and such.

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. Last nite my son and I went to the mall food court and I found some Soup at Subway. I slurped the liquid out of it, then my son ate all the other stuff. They also had some strawberry flavored sugar free Water. It was nice to know I really can work this out no matter where I go.

I made it through! The onion Soup broth was pretty much ALL onions so I asked them for a cup of au-jus, which they brought me. Fine. No sugar free drinks there except diet coke, so I had brought a packet of Crystal Lite to put in my Water. Also no problem. Later they all had cake and ice cream in front of me.....bastards.....Just kidding. I didn't even want any. I'm finding I want to live more than I want cake.....LOL..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
