Hallo BP loggers, I am a 35 year old single mother getting ready to get Lap Band in May. I am excited and nervous. So many thoughts go through my head;

- Will I succeed or fail?

- Will my body reject the Lap Band?

- Will My body handle the surgery well?

- WILL I SUCCEED OR FAIL?????

I live in an island where exercise and diet is a tribe. Everyone is doing either or both. The few people I have told about my surgery are not all positive about me doing surgery including my mother who insists I just need to diet and eat less and I can lose the 120 pounds needed to reach my ideal weight. I suffer from severe back aches, headaches, high BP, stress and fatigue and other obesity related diseases. I have been overweight all my life. I have had enough. I do not want to exist anymore but I want to live. I have spent the last 7 years feeling sorry for myself and depressed. I cannot do it anymore. I am a successful, hardworking young woman who does not show signs of low self-esteem or depression. I am very good at smiling and hiding it. But I cannot wait to get some help to get my life back together again. It is so nice to see people on here that succeeded and talking about their struggles and triumphs. I look forward to meeting you all in your own journeys of transformation.

Congratulations on this new journey. There are alot of naysayers and the thoughts you are experiencing are pretty universal. I remembered everytime I had a loss, I wondered if I had just been lucky and that was the last loss I'd have. It took a while before I felt I had some control and that it wasn't just the band. The band is a tool, but a very useful one. You still have to do the work and it sounds like you are more than prepared. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you SandyM. It's amazing how emotions plays tricks on you. I am trying very hard to prepare for the emotional part of the wls journey which will determine the outcome. It is going to be quite a triumph when I succeed.

Thanks alot

Hi,

I sure can relate to all the emotions you are experiencing. My tentative date is May 20. I've finished all my medical tests and the five months of 1400 calorie dieting required for my insurance, and it looks good for me to get insurance approval. I go through mental changes every day, worrying if I can succeed, how I will deal with head hunger, whether I'll have complications, etc., it goes on and on. The program I'm in has a bariatric psychologist on staff and I'm going to see her on April 23 in hopes of adjusting my attitude in a positive way. I don't actually know anyone who has been banded, and I wish I did so I could see a good example. I'm counting on the folks here for that!

Just know that for every one negative attitude you will encounter , you will have 10 positive people who have been there, done that and still doing it. You will get the support you need from your Lapbander family I am not telling anyone that be negative about my journey and my choice. Good luck to you
