I am pre op and having trouble getting motivated to get back into the gym. I am pre op and hoping that I will do better with consistency after surgery.

Going to the gym and getting a little more fit will certainly help with your recovery post-op. That should be motivation enough. Who wants to be in great pain if they don't have to? Good luck.

I had always heard that it takes much longer - about three months. Which certainly seems to be true in my personal experience. Regardless of how long it takes, you only need to take that first step. The whole first year following surgery is all about learning how to be healthy and implementing those changes that ensure our continued long-term success. :-)

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to try to get in there at least once this week.

"I am going to try" is the worse think you can think. Set a goal, a very reachable one and plunge head on into it. I know that sounds easier said than done, but believe me when I say at first it will be easier to talk yourself out of it than into it.

I go consistent 6 days a week. My position allows for that and i know time is an issue. You should shoot for 4xs a week.... It should be #1 prority weather it be after or before work ,

I'm right there with you on lacking motivation and drive to get to the gym Biggietosmaller! I know it's supposed to be enough motivation that it'll greatly help me, but if that were enough I wouldn't be like this in the first place. So, I DO know I always hate the first day or two going back, and I hate that feeling of finding out where I have to restart, so I"m going to give myself credit just for going. Even if I do only a half workout - I"m going. Tomorrow. End of story. You go too?

I also know it's easier to go now and feel slow and immobile and clumsy than it will be to go later and be all of that AND be sore and feeling weak and tired! Time to go. Tomorrow.

I signed up for a trainer and take group classes that way it is not all on me and I am accountable.

OK, I started my pre-op diet today and guess what, I started the gym today too!!!! I am glad I went today. I was able to complete 20 minutes on the elliptic, walking/jogging 15 min. and back on the elliptic for another 15 or 20. I am glad I was able to get back. My next challenge is getting in there in the AM and seeing all of the faces of the faithful goers who will be asking where I have been. I usually only do 30 minutes a day so I was glad I was able to go a little extra.

I've recently started back at the gym and bought a package of personal training appointments. That's helped with motivation to get there. I've also been watching my self talk. When that alarm goes off at 5:15 my first thought is 'I don't want to go to the gym'. I immediately say back to myself I love working out and I want to do this. Sometimes it even works! Lol

I am afraid (God has not given me that spirit!111) a trainer will push me too hard. I just can't see myself being tortured like some of the trainers I see on tv like on the Biggest Looser.

Trainers work for you - and if you tell them that's not what you want, they won't. My daughter is a trainer and really looks to find what is most helpful and encouraging to her clients - same with the trainers I've used (both men and women ones). I too don't want to be yelled at or talked down to. Not what i'm paying for at all! I'm not spending much time at the hymn this week, but i've been doing a lot of walking, and took a 5k test walk this afternoon (not a morning hymn rat!) to time myself for measuring progress. Felt great and it's a beautiful day! Hope you're feeling successful and proud and happy with such a great accomplishment of just going and doing! Good job.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
