Different stages of food

Recommended Posts

I am curious about others and what stages for liquids/foods were recommended for them.

Mine are as follows, in order, varying lengths of time:

1-2 weeks Clear liquids

2-4 weeks modified liquids

2-4 weeks Puréed foods

2-4 weeks Soft foods

So if all goes well and according to this, it will be 7 weeks at the earliest for soft foods!

What does everyone else's look like? Anyone similar?

Thanks!

It seems every surgeon has different rules and plans for their patients. If you search this site you will find many related posts asking this question. We all have struggled to get through our plans, and for me, it just seems like a distant memory, very faded memory........ Almost 5 months post sleeve and I am still eating slow and carefully. Every day is a new day! Good luck with your plan. Linda

My guidelines:

Day 1-3: Clear Liquids

Day 4-14 (Week 1 & 2): Full Liquids

Day 15-28 (Week 3 & 4): Pureeds

Day 29-42 (Week 5 & 6): Soft **where I'm at right now**

Day 43-56 (Week 7 & 8): Regular

and then regular food from then on. It will only be the meal size that increases. It starts at 1/4 cup and it will eventually be 1-1 1/2 cups at a year out.

But every surgeon has their own guidelines.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
