post removal diet?

Recommended Posts

Im coming up to 48 hours after removal. My surgeon just said to return to a regular diet. But the hospital had me on Clear Liquids and told me to slowly transition. So, I'm thinking the next step is almond milk or tea with milk. Does anyone have any thoughts on post removal diet? I have a follow-up on Thursday, so I'll ask my dr then. But in the short term advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks-Leena

I would think the Dr knows best? As long as there's no damage to your esophagus or stomach, you should be able to eat most anything. I'd be careful with steak and other meats but why not?

Post removal diet is much like a post fill progression; liquids, soft foods then solids. This is based solely on others I know who've had removal. I was on soft foods for 8 weeks due to damage from a mis-placed band.

I'm a vegetarian so meat won't be added at any time. Im thinking yogurts & cheese & Beans soon. But I'm just a bit cautious of foods still, as I dont want to vomit or have my stomach hurt. And very concerned about gaining weight. So I'm going to start using myfitness pal to track things and stick to it. Right now no exercise, just walking as much as I can. My surgeon wasn't very detailed about things and I didn't see him post op. Hoping to get the details on Thursday.

I'm terrified of gaining weight as well! I'm 3 days post-op and had liquids/soft foods the first day, then yesterday and today I've eaten "regular" foods - Soup, salad and a little chicken. Nothing out of the ordinary, but I feel like I have no idea how to eat or how much to eat without that pain in my side. My band malfunctioned from the beginning - my port flipped twice, and instead of having it repaired, I just removed it and decided to live my life.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
