I have my preop with my surgeon today and it's less than 2 weeks til surgery. Did that keep me away from Girl Scout Cookies? No it did not.

I have to say what makes me nervous is not the procedure itself but anticipating post op pain, post op feelings if deprivation and concerns that I won't be able to handle the post op diet. Anyone else feel like that?

Also I'm obsessing on Vitamins. What brand, how many milligrams, what type.... I wish I could be like you guys and clean house with anxiety instead of getting stuck on details.

Oh, sweetie, seriously, everyone feels that obsessive and anxious, so you're not alone. As far as post-op pain goes, you should be pretty well medicated and not feel much, if any discomfort while in the hospital. I was a little uncomfortable my first night home (I think it was the transition from the morphine to the at-home codeine), but after you start getting used to figuring out what to do when your stomach grumbles this way, or does this or that, you're golden.

As far as handling the post-op diet goes, well, if you're like me, you won't care so much about anything other than trying to make your Protein and fluid goals once you get there. Now that's not saying that you won't still crave food and dream about it (omg), when you wake up, you'll know that you really can't deviate from your plan, and won't be nearly as hard to make the healthy choice then as it was before with those GS cookies.

I sat down with my nutritionist to go over the Vitamin plan beforehand, and how it would fit into my food plan. There are also other meds that you will inevitably have to take--some sort of antacid, allergy meds, any others you are on chronically that you can't set aside yet, and yes, you do need a plan for those. It helped me to put it down on paper.

I hope that things work out well for you, and I send you lots of hugs!!

Hi! Thank you for the recommendation. I've been wondering which vitamins I'll need and which are best. Do those bariatric advantage vitamins have all that we need in them, or do you have to take other supplements/vitamins as well.

They have everything I need in them. My doc said they would be fine. But since I'm a freak I also take the calcium chews they sell and a separate B12

Hi everyone! I had my surgery yesterday, 5/5. I just got home from the hospital. I have 6 incisions and two of them hurt pretty bad. Getting in or out of bed is the worst. I also have a lot of shoulder pain from the excess gas. I was out of it most of yesterday so did not start feeling the pain until last night. I am so relieved it is over - I was super nervous. Also glad to report that I am not hungry - a welcome change from the pre-op liquid diet.

Congrats on making it thru surgery! Gosh, thank you so much for posting. I have my surgery on the 8th (Thursday) and am really scared. I am so relieved to hear you aren't hungry. I know what you mean about the liquid diet because I am starving. So why six incisions instead of four?

I had my surgery May 5th. I was scared and nervous but was so pleasantly surprised. It seems to have been so easy. Other than a little tenderness at the incision sites, I have had no pain, and best of all, NO HUNGER! You all will do great and I am excited for yall!

I may depend on your surgeon, if you've had previous laparoscopic surgeries, etc... I have five incisions and had a laparoscopic procedure several years ago. Due to some scar tissue, my surgeon needed to do 5. I will say that each day DOES get better. I had my surgery May 1st and other than some tenderness at the incision sites I'm doing well. No HUNGER! You will do fine.

Awww, so sorry you had a bad time of it. Hopefully things are better today.

I had a similar experience my first night home. Spiked a fever of 102F, and thought I might have to go to the ER, but I figured I'd give it a couple of hours. When I next woke up, fever was gone, and hasn't been back.

I didn't start Protein Drinks until Day 3, so I didn't have that problem, thank goodness. But that first night, NOTHING was helping my stomach settle down completely. Gas-x strips helped, but I even felt like the codein/tylenol I'd been prescribed was irritating instead of soothing. I stopped taking that the second day.

Today is Day 7, and I'm feeling much more steady and confident I can handle what my stomach is telling me. I actually got 89g of Protein down yesterday, and 64oz of Fluid, fully meeting my plan for the first time. Go me! ;)

I am hopeful things will be much better for you very soon; just hang in there--you're through the worst of it.

Well I am 6 days post-op and I am feeling pretty good. I am down 10lbs from the date of my surgery and down 20lbs from my pre-op visit. I am getting better with getting the 64oz everyday but I am struggling with the Protein. The shakes make me sick. Is anyone else having this problem?

Congrats!!! I'm also 6 days post op. It's easier for me to drink milk instead of the Protein Shakes

I am finding the Premier shakes are going down ok--not great, but ok. I have also been mixing in a little banana Protein Powder from Bariatric Advantage into the chocolate and vanilla Premier for a little change and a little protein boost. I'll try some P2B today and some nectar later. I tried Unjury chicken Soup yesterday, and it was a welcome change. I guess just keep trying different things until you find things that interest your palate.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
