Bandaversary coming up

Recommended Posts

On April 24th I will have be banded for one year. Unfortunately, I feel like this has been a very disappointing year due to setbacks, second surgeries and finally having to switch Drs. I have had so many fills I lost count and then having to have a repair surgery and long story short I switched Drs. and got another fill. I am now at only 3cc and still able to eat a lot more but I think I'm finally seeing a tiny bit of restriction. I'm so lost and confused about what I should expect to see and feel considering I've been doing this for what feels like forever but not having success secondary to bad patient care from my dr. I gave up on losing weight when I had so many problems with no real support from my dr and now I don't know how to start over. I never truly learned the rules and never have had any negative results from not following the rules. I've never experienced being stuck, I've never thrown up, nothing. It's like I haven't had a band until now. I want to refresh my mindset and begin again but it's been such a bad experience thus far that I'm having trouble. Is there anyone with any advice or have been through something similar? I need support and though my sister and best friend have a lapband , I'm the only one to have such a bad experience and they can't really relate to me.

And to give some additional info I've lost about 20 lbs since surgery and that was mostly from the liquid and soft food stages and after that I've pretty much maintained.

You need to get with your new doctor's staff. PA's, dietitian, nurse, etc to get you started again. I would suggest go back to square one. liquids just like you did after surgery for a period of time prescribed by doctor or his staff. Then on to the soft and then solid. I am sure you new doctor will be able to provide some menus and cooking ideas to help. So, sorry to hear you had a bad experience with a non supportive doctor.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
