Anniecb 0 Posted April 4, 2014 Hi Anniecb here. I have, as other here have struggled with weight for many years. I have looked in to weight loss surgeries in the past but was not too fond of them so I chose to continue to try other paths of weight loss. But in the last couple of years I gained 50 extra pounds that would not come off. I could feel this extra 50 was putting a toll on my body. And I REALLY disliked me! So I finally decided to do a weight loss surgery. The one of what I considered the two of lesser evils (I had not heard of the sleeve at this point) the lap band. When I started checking in to doctors I found out about the sleeve. I knew that would be the one for me. Surgery.. I had my surgery on February 28, 2014--- 32lbs. lost. I had a rough start while in the hospital. I couldn't keep the pain meds down and everything tasted terrible. I went in for surgery on a Thursday and was able to go home on Saturday. I didn't have any problems getting up and walking, thankfully. I was not able to really eat or drink anything (even water) my taste buds went in to hipper sensitive mode. Which I had heard they could do. So Protein shakes were out of the question. Needless to say I ended up with eating soupy grits for a while. So here I am 5 weeks after surgery, 32 pounds lost. Taste buds are getting back to normal slowly but surely. My doctor said for me to try and eat more meat because I still am not getting enough Protein in my system. Not enough protein in my system equals muscle loss. Also I am able to use the elliptical again. Starting with 15 minutes and working my way up. My struggles.. I still want to eat way too fast for my new stomach. I have gotten sick a couple of times from eating too fast. I still have evening cravings but not much I can do about eating anything because if I eat than I get sick.
Maggy'sMom 42 Posted April 6, 2014 Congratulations on your weight loss! It sounds like you are well on your way. I hope you are able to slow down how fast you are eating. I'm afraid I will have that problem too. I'm just starting out, haven't even had my first appointment yet but it's great to hear your experience. Keep up the good work. LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted April 6, 2014 Welcome! My husband eats slower than me, and I struggle to slow down. He has not choked, but I did on a small piece of soft chicken which was like having a heart attack til it moved on down. We both did the sleeve after many years of WL seminars that did not feel right for us. Good luck both of you, this is the best thing going for those of us who have had WL surgery. You can look for any topic/post and find it at your fingertips. Linda
