Yep, the dreaded neck gas pain. Right by my collarbone. What helped me was someone gently but rapidly karate chopping the area a few times a day. Sounds weird but it worked. It took a full week for those pains to be totally gone. Good luck.

This is caused by the air that is pumped into you during surgery it is co2 and will be absorbed by your blood in about 3 to 4 days to speed up suggest marching in place while swinging your arms in great circles over your head, got rid of mine within 1 day!

Some say a heating pad helps too?

I walked a little each day. Incresing the distance each time. Never thought to karate chop it though. It goes away.

Chiropractor helped me in just a few days after surgery. Really did help the neck and shoulder pain. Helped with my gas pressure too.

GAS X helps a ton.. They make dissolving sheets you place on your tongue!

I had the same pain the same day of my surgery and I would just extend my arms out and rotate them a lot until it finally went away

I did the walking with windmilling arms as much as possible, round and round our driving circle. Congratulations on your surgery -- I hope you feel better soon. Oh, heating pad helped me, too, and the "happy baby" yoga pose which is basically on the back with arms and knees up. Some people talk about log rolls -- for one just to get up without that incisional pain but also back and forth to move things around. The co2 releasing into the blood mentioned above makes so much sense and accounts for why the walking speeds. That process. I wish I had known about the karate chops, too!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
