Ok, I am now 2 weeks away from my surgery. I will start the pre-op diet on Tuesday. I know I need to watch my carbs. My facilitator said that I just need to stay away from breads, rice, potatoes, and noodle but fruits are ok. I just looked online and saw how many carbs are in apples and grapes. A lot! What have been your experiences? Are those carbs ok?

Most of us keep our carbs as low as possible. And yes, that can include fruits. But post-op I have found 1 clementine or a half of an apple fills me up, so I haven't been too concerned about over-doing it. Grapes do have higher carbs than some other fruits, as do bananas.

I would error on the side of caution and avoid fruits. In my case, I know that fruit triggers sugar cravings and I don't lose weight easily if I have it in my diet.

I'm not sure about apples but my NUT said that 10 grapes would be a serving of fruit. (for pre-op)

I am so jealous of all you guys. My pre-op is 2 weeks liquid only. I'm on day 5, I would die for even 2 bites of chicken breast or something not sweet.

My pre op diet was liquids only for a week! Hated it lol. Anyway I am 6 weeks out and I am allowed to have fruit without skins. I like fruit cups and I like to put blueberries and bananas in my shakes. I don't eat citrus fruits because of the acid.

So you can eat raw fruit without skins, even strawberries? Do you still have to have shakes at week 6? Sorry I have my surgery on the 14th and just am curious about this. Can't wait to not drink shakes all the time. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
