I have had a terrible chest infection since my operation which is 3 weeks today! This has bothered me much more than my gastric sleeve. It was discovered that during the operation I aspirated which means I inhaled something into my lungs which has set off this problem with my lungs. As for pain.. I had a little but the hospital had me on pain killers for a couple of days. I got up as soon as I could and walked around the ward 3 times a day. To get rid of the gas and also to try not coughing as much.. I threw up only a couple of times once getting a bariatric swallow test done mainly because they get you to swallow this awful aniseed flavoured drink.. ( awful) I did miss food initially but it was in my head. The beef broth was heaps.. Remember to stay hydrated.. When I came home I started drinking coconut Water instead of the other drinks recommended.. I drink one litre per day. It has lots of nutrients in it. Although 200 calories but I prefer it. To eating anyway.

Hi,

I am on the northern Gold Coast.

Had my gastric sleeve done on 8th March 2016.

Bit over 3 weeks now.

No major issues at this stage.

Hello to Brissy and Gold Coast members :)

Pretty good, no major complains.

8 weeks post op, lost 12 kgs, happier, energy is coming back, life is good!

My main issue was acid reflux, but I got a stronger med for it, Nexium, and it is working!

On more solid food now, however I still prefer the softer foods.

Saving lots of money on grocery shopping :)

Just plodding along .... no regrets.

Have you had your op?

How are you travelling?

Cheers,

Margo

Hi I'm at Mt Tamborine so between Brisbane and Gold Coast. I had a sleeve in Dec 2013. I did great and lost 40 kg in the first year. I then had some other health problems which took a while to sort out and slipped back into my old ways. I am feeling inspired to do a start over and looking for support in my efforts. My sleeve saved my life and I want to use it again to improve my health.

Hi, in Logan. I had a lap band put in 8 years ago and am now looking at revision to sleeve or bypass. So far, I'm fairly sure it will be bypass. Just waiting for the PHI waiting period to be up.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
