Any April Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Thanks folks. I wouldn't go against my doc's guidelines, which are no drinking 30 minutes before and ONE hour after! Aurgh! So hard to get all the stuff in I need to and keep track of what is left and when to do what. I finished 1 1/2 ounces of salmon an hour ago, and just tried some much needed Water since I'm behind for the day -- still too full to drink it. And I still have more food I'm supposed to eat tonight to hit my Protein goals.

I saw the NUT in my surgeon's office on Tuesday and I told her I was having trouble getting all my fluids in, and I also told her I drink until just a few minutes before eating. She said that's no problem as long as I don't drink with or 30 min after meals (luckily I can't do either, there just isn't enough room in my sleeve).

My point is, if getting all your fluids in is a problem for you, it doesn't hurt to ask your surgeon or NUT.

Hope everyone is doing well. Very few people know about my surgery, but I've had several people at work comment that they have noticed I've lost weight. Yay! Has this happened to any of you yet? I've gotta go buy some new scrub pants.......

Great suggestion Diann! Thank you. I'll email the RN who runs the program and ask about the fluids thing. Even stopping fifteen minutes before would be easier than 30 minutes, since I'm having to sip slower than before.

Congrats on people noticing and getting new (I assume SMALLER) scrubs - yay!

I've lost about 30 pounds since the pre-op started, so over a period of just about a month now, and so far the only comments from people at work have been how good I look in general, and that they wish they looked so well after surgery. I didn't tell them what I was having done, only that I needed some gastric surgery to correct a long standing problem. I look forward to needing new clothes though. Good for you!

I'm 3 weeks post op, and still having trouble bending over without abdominal pain. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Yeah - I'd ask the doc's office about it. I've read others had similar experiences, but I haven't had that. More tired on my part, but oddly I was able to bend over to pick things us (slowly) even the day after surgery. Just call and ask though - it doesn't ever hurt to check!

Thanks , I just started felling sore this week. I think picking my daughter up may have contributed this, I'll call and see.

I find that if i mix a scoop of unflavored Protein in my Water with some sugar free flavoring, it's not bad and I'm able to get 15 grams of protein that way.

Anybody know about wheat crackers during soft food phase ?

You might want to call your surgeon's office on this one. I know for me, ANY carbs like that (bread, english muffin, tortillas, Cereal, crackers, etc.) is forbidden for 6 months. They tell me those kinds of carbs tend to form a sticky blob in your new tummy that can cause a blockage. If in doubt, don't eat it!

Today is my 4-week post-op surgiversary. I don't have a scale (on purpose) so I took all my measurements.

I've lost NINETEEN INCHES since surgery! I was stunned and recalculated 3 times because I couldn't believe it! I lost the LEAST amount (1.5 inches) in my bustline. Yay! :)

Anyone else tracking their inches lost?

Yes. I am three weeks out and have lost 20 lbs and 18 inches! I measure my neck, bust, waist, hips, thigh, and upper arm.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
