gallbladder out on the 11th

Recommended Posts

OK so I've never had surgery ever . I was nervous so I talked about it on here and received support and a lot of people told me about their first hand experiences with that surgery. Most of them said that it's not a hard surgery and one week later they went back to work. Today a girl that works for the same company I do told me she took 6 weeks off and that I shouldn't be rushing back after one week. I can't be out for that long. I am a front end manager at a grocery store. I cashier and am on my feet all day running all over and lift things. I don't lift extremely heavy stuff nothing larger than a 36 pack of beer lol. I don't want complications after because I rushed back. Is one week enough time to go back if I take it easy? Really concerned and scared now.

Has your surgeon given you any guidelines about lifting? I had some lifting restrictions after I had my gall bladder out, although it was so long ago that I no longer remember what they were. :( A 36 pack of beer sounds pretty heavy to be lifting right after surgery, but I'm not your dr. I'd ask him.

Also, for what it's worth, I was down for 10 days after gall bladder surgery, but I understand many people are back on their feet faster. I was silly and pushed myself at first, and then was feeling ill and in a lot of pain. I might have gotten better faster if I'd taken it easy those first few days.

So 6 weeks is ridiculous. I'm not going to go to work and pull grocery loads or stock cases and lift heavy items. I should be Able to go back after a week and be OK then? I'm saving my other 2 wks off for my sleeve surgery in July.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
