I had a conversion from lap - band to sleeve gastrectomy on March 20. All went well until this week when I began having severe acid reflux. I have it 24/7 no matter what I eat. Even when drinking Water. I am so uncomfortable that it even hurts to take a deep breath like its really sore on the inside. If I even slightly bend over the acid comes up into my mouth. I am taking Prilosec once a day. I called my surgeon's office today and was told to increase Prilosec to twice a day and to make an appointment with my gastroenterologist. I couldn't get an appointment until April 14. My entire torso feels sore when walking around. I had gotten over that soreness after surgery but now I think it's due to this severe reflux. I had a hiatal hernia repair in 2011 and have not experienced acid reflux since then until now. Anyone had any similar problem?

all I can say is that two weeks after surgery you will still have a burning/sore feeling on the side. feels like it's inside too. I had that for about 5-6 weeks.

after a few days of double Prilosec you will hopefully have less acid. good you made appt by April 14 you will know if Prilosec is working. in meantime avoid irritating drinks or anything with citric acid in it. avoid laying down after eating or drinking and when in bed keep head elevated a bit. eat very very very slowly. you have very little room so you need to be very careful. even Water take very tiny sips.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
