Bipolar disorder question

Recommended Posts

Hi Whitchystar, I've been in your shoes... I have Bipolar with Anxiety, I had to get a letter from my physiologists. I wouldn't ask him because he is the best there is in our town. I see a psychologists every 2 weeks now, just started that few months ago. Been seeing him every week for years.

Since he knew me better than my psych Dr I asked him to write a letter. He did and it went through just fine.

I have had too readjust my meds probably a year and half ago? They put me on Abilify, took that for a year I guess, 1/2 pill twice a day. When I asked if I could take it whole he said go ahead and try, well it didn't work even going back on it twice a day. Been taking Seraquel XR for 5 months and have awful side effects with it. Last month I saw dr again he put me on Latuda, I've only been on it a few days now. I also take Celexa and Welbutrin. So yes your meds might change on you too.

Take your paper into the Phychiatrist on your 15 min apt and ask him then to fill it out.

I

I am bipolar 2 with anxiety. Was dx 2 yrs after my sleeve. Started out seeing pdoc every 2 wks, then once a month, now every 3 months. The surgery did not affect mine one way or the other. Now...after going thru so many meds to find my cocktail...i take depakote 1000 mg at night, valium 5 mg at bedtime, and prozac 20 mg in a.m. All the others either stopped working, made me gain weight, or had side effects. I never had to be on lithium. It took me 2 yrs and going before a judge to get my ssd here in Texas. Hope you are doing well to all here.

My bipolar started getting really bad once again! The anxiety is out of this world, gosh I can't even go out unless I'm with my husband. I feel all eyes are upon me, horrid dreams, extra dry mouth.

Saw my psychiatrist he upped my Latuda to 80 mg. Celexa 40, Welbutrin 450mg and added Bupropion at night with Trazadone 100mg. Just started higher dose few days ago so can't tell much yet. See my psychologist every 2 weeks. I've been going through some very stressful days with personal problems my daughters family has been going on since March. He does seem a lot of my anxiety is from her problems and I've been so stressed but finally some resolve is coming through. He said now I'm relaxing more that it's like I can breath a little but I feel like I can't yet hence the added anxiety, and wow awful dreams.

Seraquel was giving me so many problems had to stop that. Yes weight loss, rapid weight loss does interfere with your meds, even my heart pills were to much that it lowered to 1/2 a one.

Just be careful not to adjust your own meds, you can do more harm. See your doctors and make sure they "remember" you had weight loss surgery.

Hi I'm on Seroquel XR but I read that it slows your metabolism and I feel so drained so I want to ask you if your metabolism slowed down while you was taking this. I need something for my bipolar but I don't want or need anything to slow down my metabolism. Thank you.

Yes the Seraquel was horrible for energy. I was walking with eyes still closed in am. I had to take at 8pm. He changed to Latuda 80mg a month ago, well I was on 40mg he upped it when I saw him 6 was later. I also take Trazadone 100mg at night and it's still got me dragging too. I also take Celexa and Welbutrin 450mg and bupropion. Bipolar, anxiety depression. I got on disability 5 years ago first go.

Hope you get strengthen out.

@@#9grammy I was on Latuda awhile back couldn't get over the nausea after a month so I couldn't tolerate that. I been on high doses of Seroquel in the past but never took the XR I was hoping it worked but it says it slows down your metabolism and I can't afford that this weekend I felt lousy didn't do anything from drowsiness. And it made crave food that I usually never have since my Sleeve on 7/5/16. I need something but will have to see what my surgery dr thinks about the Seroquel if he says no then I'll contact my psych dr. I too have been on SSI for years but never got my cocktail right yet. I have to have my Xanax for my anxiety or I wouldn't get anything done as far as leaving the house. Nerves be too bad ;(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
