Starting Pre-Op Diet and have a cold :(

Recommended Posts

I came home yesterday with a terrible cold, the good news... I have ZERO appetite. I start my diet tomorrow but wonder if my cold medicines will effect anything. I'm taking Day- Quill and Zantac for now and trying to keep it to a minimum. Did anyone else have this blessing happen to them lol! Any advise?

I had my surgery on the 25th and I too had a cold leading up to surgery. On one had its a blessing because the pre op liquid diet leaves most feeling like they're starving so that decrease in appetite is working in your favor. I took meds leading up to surgery too. I stayed away from nsaids and took Tylenol instead. I took the tylenol severe cold and my allergy pills. Those seemed to help my cold and be safe for surgery

Girl, I am in the same situation. I have surgery on the 15th and have some kind of sinus/allergy stuff going on. I was hoping to start walking everyday leading up to surgery, but today I came home from work wiped out from feeling bad all day. I've been loading up on Benadryl and some sinus stuff. I start my preop diet on Monday- 2 Protein drinks and one meal of lean Protein and a small vegetable. I just hope I get rid of this crud before surgery.

I hear ya! I'm just glad it happen before and not after. The good news, this cold has killed my appetite so I went ahead and started today. Today is also day 3 of no coffee. Hopefully it's a blessing in disguise. If I feel better tomorrow - I will exercise.

Feel better & thanks for the advise :)

Well at least the liquids will be good for your cold. I am on day 4 of 14 of my liquid diet and am pretty hungry so glad you have no appetite. Good luck and feel better soon.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
