Last Pre-Op appointment today. What I learned.

Recommended Posts

I saw the PA and Nutritionist today for the final time. I'm 12 days pre-op. Seriously getting real now!

Here are a few things that came up that I didn't know:

What shocked me the most was the fact that I am to stop using Protein supplements starting in Week 3. I'm glad I didn't run out and buy a ton of it!!! Also starting week 7, I can pretty much return to "normal" foods including cooking with oil and butter.

I got a prescription for 3 months of antacid/anti-ulcer medication. (I don't have it near me so I don't know the name). I'm told it's to aid in healing my pouch. Had no idea.

No driving for a week. No lifting anything weighing more than 25 pounds for 4 weeks.

I am not having a Q-On pump like the hospital told me. Meds in the hospital and tylenol ant home.

They told me no Protein supplements after then either. To get my protein from whole foods. They also told me to wait a month before taking my Multivitamin. I got sent home with 40 of the small percocet, the ones with no Tylenol. As soon as I got constipated I quit using them. My weight restriction is no more than 10lbs for 6 weeks! I wish I had yours cuz my laundry weighs more than 10 lbs, I have to make extra trips lol.. Oh well I guess the walking is good!!! Good luck on your surgery! I will be thinking of you!! Can't wait to read more updates from you.

I am in Ontario and my surgery (RNY) is on April 22nd. They never told me that yet that I remember. I was told no lifting anything heavier than 10 lbs after surgery. Interesting. I know there are some differences between the States and Canada. I think that I will probably be seeing a nutritionists before leaving the hospital. Thanks for the info

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I am in the middle of a six-month trail, per my insurance company and only have 3 more months to go. I am looking forward a mean and lean version of me. :) My hubby is planning to have his surgery after mine probably in this fall.

I drop out of the program 3 years ago and at that time, I was going to do the lap band but feel that the gastric bypass would be a better choice for me. My family is very support as well as my colleagues at work. I have had my mental health elevation, my first appointment with the nutrition so I am on track!!!!

Sillyolme1 I'm scheduled 4/15.

My practice does Protein shakes for 2 weeks post-op then only "real" Protein starting in week 3. Lactose free skin milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, canned tuna or salad, 1/2 egg.

Interesting how things differ. We are to stop taking supplements 2 weeks before surgery and start up again 2 weeks post op when we start pureed foods. For 3 months post op we take the Prilosec (omeprazole) and potassium.

Hmmm.im curious why potassium and Prilosec..or is that an ant-acid? Yes seems there are differences in nutrition..as ive been watching the boards and previously done my homework...lol...im not sure why people..doctors.. would want to push their..or pts.. bodies..but i guess to each their own Still better to err on side of caution..i think..

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
