I just had the sleeve done on Tuesday 4/1/14. I was released from the hospital yesterday. I am still experiencing the worst pains in my abdomen. Is this normal? How long will it last? Does any one have any tips on how to minimize the pain? Also I'm a side to stomach sleeper which is Dang near impossible right now. Any tips? Thanks

Did your doctor send you home with pain meds? I had pain for 3 weeks. Everyone is different. I was 275 and I had to walk around holding my belly. I also was a side sleeper. Took me about a month to be able too sleep on side again. I slepped on a recliner chair for a month. I would call your doc and review the pain level. Walking as much as you can like every hour will help. You have to get the gas out. Hope it gets better soon for you.

I was sleeved on March 11th and still feel some tenderness. The first couple weeks, I would have an icepack and a heat pad to alternate on my stomache. It really helped. I also took 2 -3 hot showers a day. May be overkill, but it felt so much better.

I was only on Pain meds for a week. I too, could not sleep in my bed for about 2-3 weeks. Only the recliner where I did not have to turn or lay on my side. Definately give it some time. Most are looking at about 2-3 weeks for stomache to be less painful. But, the walking also is a bonus. Any amount will help you. Good Luck!!

I too was discharged yesterday. Mostly gas pains which are getting better by walking. The pain from the incisions seems better but the longest incision hurts more than the others.

I was sleeved march 20th. I am also a side sleeper and was finally able to sleep on my side two nights ago. I found that I was more comfortable on my back when I had something propped under my knees. I felt a little like a turtle on it's back. But I adjusted after a few days

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
