How are you doing Marymo? I wanted to update you. My band should be 6.2, Its down to under 5mls in one week. They sent me home and said my doctor would call me for surgery dates performed at a local hospital. Hope you are doing well and had a great weekend. Again thank you so much for sharing your experience.

Hi Liz. Wow. Sorry to hear. I'm going for a barium swallow once I get back from my vaycay. Doctors want to know where I'm at before giving me another fill. Mary. Let me know when you have a date. Take care

My surgery is booked for tues. Sept 16th. No testing done. He thinks its more than likely a port leak. Lets hope he's right. :)

Why are you continuing with the barium swallow Mary? Keep us posted.

Hope you had a great vacation. Mine starts eight days after surgery. :)

Hi Liz. How did your surgery go? I've been thinking of you. I hope now things will progress for you. I had a barium and upper GI because with my fill capacity of 8.15 they want to see if I could tolerate more fill. I suspect that there may be another problem. Fingers crossed that's not the case. Mary

Hi Marymo. I got a new band placed, filled to 6cc. Recovery was much easier this time. Getting another fill next week. 8.15 sounds like alot of Cc's. Are you hungry? Im still hungry almost every hour or two. Are they suspecting a slow leak with your band? (Thats what i had). My fingers are crossed for you. ☺

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
