1 week post op - possible infection

Recommended Posts

Earlier today I noticed that one of my incisions has a red circle around it and is slightly warm. Will it be okay to wait until the Am to call dr? The pic doesn't do a very good job showing the redness...

I think it will be fine to wait until in the morning, just call or go in bright and early so you can start antibiotic ASAP

Looks more like bruising than infection. I'm thinking you are ok. :) I'm not a doctor, so do what makes you comfortable.

Looking at it closer it does look like bruising! Knowing myself I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight not knowing for sure

I thought there should be no yellow puss. That's what my nurse said. I would wait till morning if you can tolerate but then first thing call them. Better safe than sorry. Let us know how it goes!

The doc will send you to the ER. Always trust your gut instinct. If you think something is wrong go to the ER. If you are running a fever or having chills, I would worry. Right after surgery we are all a little nervous. What surgery did you have? How long since your surgery? You have redness and bruising which are both normal after surgery. No reason you won't have smooth sailing! Good luck and do what is right for you which is what you think you should do.

Thanks for the advice. Was really hoping for smooth sailing :(

. These things can happen. I had a small infection with my csection incision. Get the antibiotics and you will be fine. Just don't procrastinate and let it get worse. You will be fine!!!

I think I was having a reaction to the glue. I've put hydrocortisone on the red part. If not better tomorrow I will be calling the Dr (she's not on the office today-it's a surgery day).

Nurse said it sounds normal. Wash with soap and Water and don't put anything on it. Let it get air. If it goes south over the weekend go to urgent care.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
