Too much liquid 5 days Post Op?

Recommended Posts

So, I have been having all of the right things, broth, Protein drinks, Water, but I seem to be able to tolerate a bit more than the doctor who took my drain out indicated. Is this okay? I have not had one thing not allowed (even though I'm a bit hungry at times) and hope at tomorrows appointment I can start purees. I can take a cup of unjury chicken Soup down in 15 minutes or less. Is this wrong? Is my sleeve not working?

I don't think you're supposed to be testing how much you can handle- just follow your doctor's advice. From what I read, most people don't feel restriction until they start soft foods/ solids. Be careful, the surgeon gave you those limits for a reason!

I don't think um testing but 1 ounce of liquid every 15 min is going to send me to ER for dehydration I think. I've gotten different instructions from every person from group who has called me.

liquids pretty much go right through your sleeve and you will not feel the restriction. When you start on solid Proteins you will definitely feel it.

I'm in the same boat. I had my surgery on Monday and yesterday and today I was able to drink an entire 11 oz Premier Protein shake in less than an hour. I was kinda worried about that too. I'm sure it worked...and of course solid food is different but sometimes I get pain from two swings of water...it's so random... :?

I think everyone has a different threshold for discomfort. My surgery was a week ago. I've been trying for the last 10 hours to drink my three 4 oz Protein shakes and my 64 oz of Fluid. I have 8 more ozs to go. I cannot take two sips back to back or my stomach will spasm. I cannot take a large swallow. It takes me 1 hour to get that damn 4 oz of Protein down. Not everyone spasms. I do. The doctor said it will go away. I can say that I honestly do not want to eat or drink one bite because it is uncomfortable. However, I am a wimp. I don't tolerate pain very well. You all might just have a higher pain threshold than me and can tolerate more fluids. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Good luck! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
