I'm 7 weeks post-op today. For the last 3-5 days, I've been waking up and feeling dehydrated. My fingers feel a little swollen and my urine is dark yellow. I've been very thirsty too. I have not changed my diet or exercise during this time and I always get at least 64oz Water each day (usually more). What could be going on ?

If your always very thirsty, start by drinking more and see what happens.

yes, start by drinking more... if you are not doing better, check with your doctor...

do you take Probiotics? some cause dry mouth, etc for people... I cannot use them, they do me WRONG :( ... so I went back to Miralax to help with my "problem" ;)

Sometimes 64 oz is not enough. It isn't for me. I usually have 16 oz of herbal tea at bedtime and I still have dark urine in the morning since surgery. Weird.

I personally had to increase to 80 oz or more to not feel dehtdrated. It's hard but it gets easier with time.

I would go to your doc. and ask for a simple urine test. They can "dip" your urine to make sure you're not spilling any evidence of infection, glucose, or Protein. If you're drinking 64 oz. a day, it seems odd to me that your urine is dark. You probably are just one of those people who require more than 64 oz., but I think it's a good idea to err on the side of caution and rule out everything else. Good luck!

Thanks, everyone. Sounds like this could be completely normal but am following up with my doctor just to be sure. I'll keep you posted! :)

Are you getting to much sodium or salt?

I saw my doc today. He says that I'm back in ketosis. He says that I've lost so much weight so quickly that it was inevitable. I've lost 18% of my body weight in two months, which is apparently very fast. I'm doing well, so he told me to keep on chugging along! :) Thank you all very your feedback and suggestions!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
