I had my gastric bypass surgery December 31, 2010. At my 9 months anniversary I had dropped 70 pounds. Due to some major hip issues, I was unable to exercise at all and still lost 70 pounds in 9 months. I was very pleased with this.

I had high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and very high cholesterol (I was on meds for all three of these). I'm very happy to say, I left the hospital the following day after my surgery with no meds!! And I've maintained the weight loss and the no med status!!! (I have to admit I have probably gained 2-5 lbs recently).

The month after I reached the 70 lb loss, I had major issues with the hip replacement I had one year previous to the gastric bypass. I had to have 3 surgeries within 40 days, 2nd surgery got infected and I was put on a PICC line and then had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic that was being administered via the PICC line, and nearly died. I was put on life support Christmas morning 2011. This had NOTHING to do with the gastric bypass. I've never had any issues from the gastric bypass. For the next year, my focus was to just get back on my feet and enjoy the fact that I was still living!!

I've gotten a little off track recently and am trying to get back on track. My mistake: grazing.... I was warned not to do this, but I have failed in this area.

Anybody every done this?? How did you get back on track?

I'm open to any and all suggestions.

THANKS!

Thanks so much for sharing ur story! Im only 6 months post op, but struggle with grazing as well. I was complaining about it to a friend, and she said "just stop it!" Easier said than done, but it made me laugh! Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
