Joining gym = weight not moving?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I will start off by saying I know I am probably being ridiculous, but I joined the gym last week. Have exercised 2 days on 1 day off since then and have not lost a single .01 of a lb. I am still eating my 5 meals a day that my nutritionist recommended so am I doing something wrong,? Or is this one of those wait and see kinda things.

It may be a wait and see kinda thing. How long are you exercising? Are you doing weight training and cardio? It may be that you need a few more healthy calories added into your diet. How many calories are you consuming now?

When I suddenly stop losing like you have, I fall back on this thought - if I haven't changed my eating habits and it was working, just stay with the plan till my body decides what it wants to do. If I try making too many adjustments, I just wind up second guessing myslef with no way to track the results.

Working out = adding muscle and burning fat. Muscle weighs more than fat, plus your muscled are going to hang on to whatever fluids it can to help your them heal and regenerate. Even if you aren't dropping pounds, I can almost guarantee you're dropping inches. Plus you're improving your metabolism and burning more calories even when you're at rest.

Exercising is ALWAYS better than not exercising. Don't worry so much about the number on the scale!

Thanks all. I think I am going to banish the scale for a couple weeks. I guess I am eating about 800-1000 calories. I haven't really been keeping track of them religiously (but that is a good estimate to where I am at). I am eating healthy things in small portions. I am not cleared for weights so I have been doing 45 minutes of cardio. (elliptical and bike). Grrr.. I think my body is just trying to figure itself out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
