Just returned from my 6 week check up and the doctor informed me that I am eating way to much Protein per day. The suggested Proteins per day for maximum weight loss is between 60 to 80 grams a day. With a caloric intake of between 400 to 600 per day.. My calorie intake is ok but I have been eating a over 100grams of protein daily..I am coming up with a sample menu in which I will be eating 74 grams of proteins and about 550 calories. My concerns with this new menu is that the intake of carbs will now be about 57 grams daily. Does anyone know if this amount of carbs will hurt my weight loss? I asked the doctor what a good balance between carbs and protein would be and she said if you are eating healthy not to worry about the carbs.. Which threw me for a loop.. Can anyone help

From my own experiences, I know that if I eat carbs from candy or fruit I tend to hold or gain weight and experience sugar cravings. If the same amount of carbs come from beans/vegetables I don't experience weight gain and I don't get sugar cravings.

The guidelines I was given said try to have 75% Protein 25% carbs per meal. And by carbs they were referring to fibrous vegetables like greens/beans/squash/eggplant - nothing that could be quickly converted into sugar like fruit or potatoes or Pasta or rice.

Thank you very much. Those are the type of carbs that I am talking about. They were coming from Beans but it looks like I still might be eating more carbs than Protein per meal. With the low fat beans I plan on eating there is 19carbs to 6 protein per serving. Plus 1oz of chicken I will be eating 15 protein to 18 carbs per meal.. I guess I will need to do some more tweaking to my menu.

My surgeon's plan calls for up to 60 grams of carbs per day (not from grains, starchy veg, or sweets - only from green veggies, dairy, Beans, nuts, and occasional fruit). I'm down 167 lbs, still have about 30 to go. I don't think it has slowed me down at all.

We all work to figure it out. Our surgeon said eat healthy and gave us no guidelines. 3 months post op I was told I was eating too much Protein. I am still finding my groove.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
