4th day did I overdo it?

Recommended Posts

So, when the doc took my drain out he said 4 ounces of liquid an hour. Yesterday when the nurse called to check on me she said no problem with liquids as tolerated. So today, although it took fully 12 hours or so, I got 2 1/2 Protein drinks in , a cup of broth, a popcycle, and some Water. Tonight I feel very bloated. I'm worried that I ruined my sleeve. I'm also really constipated and nurse said to start taking Colace which hasn't done much yet. I don't know if I'm sore, bloated with gas, or if I did something worse with all my liquid today. I'm super nervous. Advice would help thanks.

Hi Patoonces,

I'm one day ahead of you at 5 post-op. My Constipation just ended today. I consume about the same amount as you on a daily basis. I feel a bit bloated but I relate some of that to the local swelling from the surgery. Still sore in the abdomen, but it really hasn't been that long for us. It's surprising what I can do this close to surgery.

Hope you feel better soon

Following surgery it is normal that you will have swelling and you will feel bloated; you will be constipated or have diarrhea. and you will have gas. Every day there are posts referring to all these. Sounds like you are normal, feeling like most. There are topics on everything so read and learn. I have had Constipation 4 months. I have learned to take one day at a time and find what works. I was glad when I could finally eat veggies. Just rest and each day you will feel better. Walking helps with the gas and bloating also I am sure (not a mile, but just walking some). BTW Colace did nothing for me, you have to try different things til you find the right fix. Be patient. Soon you will feel better. Linda

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
