I want to go tanning in a bed. I am three weeks out (3/17) my incisions look pretty good. White, some have scabs that will fall soon.

Anyone go tanning ? When did u start ?

Thankss

I haven't had surgery yet, but I've had laparoscopic on both knees and tanned within like 2-3 weeks, I just put some band aids or sunscreen on those areas, since they're still pretty sensitive.

As far as I am concerned, I look better with a tan. But tanned skin=damaged skin=wrinkles and the possibility of skin cancer. I may go to a salon to get a spray tan, but I am not risking my life to look browner. Just my opinion.

Just cover the scars for about 6 months and you should be ok.

Cover your scars! Any tanning will make scaring worse! I am a tanning person too it's my addiction in the summer. You just really don't want those scars to get worse baby them and eventually they may not exist!

I know you don't care, but others might so let me point out that tanning changes your skin's DNA such that as you age you look much worse than you otherwise would have without the excess UV exposure.

Think wrinkles, lines around the mouth, deep lines on your forehead and rough skin with dark freckles.

I realize that the future seems very far away when you are in your 20s, but I promise you it comes faster than you think -- and YES you will care what you look like even when you are an old lady of 35 or 40!! :P :P

It's not worth it. Use sunless tanning cream or go for the mystic tan instead. OK that's all. :)

The only caution I would have is to not get dehydrated! It can get hot in those beds, and if you're not able to get all your fluids in properly yet, you will end up feeling like CRAP!!! And dehydration can be very dangerous to those who have recently had surgery. . . .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
