Weight Loss Stall

Recommended Posts

I had my lapband surgery a little over a year ago and have lost 55lbs. My weight loss has now stalled even though i have been following the plan 1200 calories daily drink at least 64oz Water, and even increased my exercise.

All this to no avail....I am very thankful that at least the scale didn't show a gain.

I started yesterday on the liquid pre/post surgery diet. I am unsure how long I will stay on this ...but i have already lost 2lbs.

Anyone else have this problem?

After the first year, your body has adjusted to your day to day life style. Exercising like crazy will not make you lose weight. You have to keep your body guessing at all times in order to keep losing weight. Go to 1,000 calories and rest a day in between exercise. If you do cardio first, then do it last. If you are eating the same things over and over again, try new things. If you don't keep your body guessing then your weight will stall for a long time.

How long has it stalled?

I agree with Cheryl. Mix it up. Exercise and diet sometimes needs a shake-up.

If you lost 2 lbs in one day it's probably not fat, it's fluids you're losing even if you're consuming fluids. I'm not a big fan of liquid diets. It's like not being banded. You're not using the tool at all. The scale may dip for a few days but once you go back to solids, the weight will come back.

Are you exercising? Put in some serious exercise and do it consistently if you want to drop some fat.

Just remember, you have to burn 3500 more calories than you consume to burn off 1 lb of fat. I've seen many folks here say they were successful in kicking aside their stall/plateau by upping their Protein intake. And, I mean solid Proteins.

I don't plan on staying on this liquid diet. It was my intention to try to jump start my weight loss. i was wondering if anyone else might have tried this as well. The lap band actually does help because I really never get hungry.

Thanks for your input and suggestions :)

Terri, I agree, it's a good way to clean out your system and start anew. I like to use the 5-day pouch test. http://www.5daypouchtest.com/

I can drop a quick 3-5 lbs and start anew in 5 days. It's not too painful and works. It's designed for Bypass patients and not banders so don't let the pouch term fool you. This 5 day test is a real shocker for your system and like I said before, we need it sometimes.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
