mca98 you will be sore and have some gas pains, sipping your liquids and walking (just get up and move alittle bit-not on a long walk-LOL) will help so everyone tells me on here. I didn't have much gas pains, mine were from my hernia being repaired at the same time. At first you will find it hard to drink as much as you are suppose to, but that will come with time. Once you get to the mushy food stage you'll be saying I'll be happy when I can eat real foods again...LOLRH!!! You will do just fine...hang in there and use us for your support...let me know if you need any info!!! Take care and best wishes and don't be nervous (although that is normal too)...wasn't sure how I felt the morning of my surgery, was just ready to get on with my life. God bless sweetie!!!

I almost passed this topic by...I'm nearly 15 months post op and tend not to reply to these types of questions. But I did want to let you know that it's very common to be nervous. You are starting a new journey and like anything unknown, there is much concern on your part...and that much I can always relate to.

If it helps at all, I was just as worried and nervous as you are but I am now at goal weight and doing better than I ever expected. Wishing you much success!

My blood pressure was high from nerves before surgery. Woke up with minimal discomfort and only got better from there. Good luck

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
