Who is banding you? If my insurance denies me, I want to have it done in Mexico. I am researching doctors now, just in case. I welcome any suggestions!

Dr. Alberta Aceves in Mexicali. My cousin had hers done there in October and she is doing great and reported it as a top notch experience. She did a lot more investigation that I have done. Though I did attend a seminar here in Lost Wages (Las Vegas) AFTER making the commitment to Aceves, my husband learned a lot and I was validated in my decision. Aceves has been highly recommended by others on HIS site, of course, he wouldn't have negative comments posted. I dealt w/"Ishi" and she was very VERY helpful on an almost immediate reply w/info to my many questions. Good Luck. I have heard the insurance approval is usually a very long deal, but of course worth it to many folks. jb

Although I'm not a friend of Bill, I am a friend of Lois. You are going to find friends here and I wish you the best of luck in the future. Remember easy does it and one day at a time. :)

Well you are a real WINNER! What a weight loss. If it weren't for Lois I doubt there would have been a Bill. My friendship with Bill started 8/23/73. My BMI 34 and scheduled for banding Monday next!!! eek I can't sleep. Going to Dr. Aceves in Calexico about 5 hr drive from here in Vegas. Going with 2 friends of Bill the husband will be banded, and my husband also a friend of Bill's. So what a group we will be!! Thank you for your support. My biggest fear(s) are: 1. I'll get there and find out I can't have the surgery and 2. I'll get it and it won't work. Don't have any "reasonable" concerns that would support these fears. Guess I just want it so much. jb

Isabelle290,

If your insurance denies you, you might want to consider Dr. Kirshenbaum. There is a thread on here somewhere about him. He trys to compete with the prices in Mexico and I have read good things about him. He is in Colorado.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
