lapnicky 39 Posted March 31, 2014 Someone recently told me that meds don't get absorbed the same with a sleeve because it goes straight down and doesn't sit in the stomach. Is this true? Does that mean we need higher doses of meds now? I've never heard of this.
inittothinit 145 Posted March 31, 2014 Ok, so totally unscientific and I could be completely wrong, but I think the opposite is true. I take a prescription sleep med and while it used to take 20 minutes or longer to kick in, post sleeve, it's full on in about 10 minutes. I believe that pills are partially dissolved in the stomach but absorbed in the small intestine. Smaller , emptier stomach means that the pill hits the small intestine quicker. Molly2180 8 Posted April 1, 2014 You may need meds changed. Any extended release meds won't work correctly because they're digested before they breakdown. I'm actually on a smaller dose of what was formerly extended release. Your doc will tell you what to change
Iambeautiful 100 Posted April 1, 2014 I was told to NEVER use extended release meds of any kind anymore after the sleeve..... even Vitamins that are ex. release as well.
Iambeautiful 100 Posted April 1, 2014 The sleeve Does NOT have malabsorbtive features. What it can do though is that if you drink high calorie high sugar drinks like shakes etc and things like kool aid and ice cream shakes. candy and any high carb liquids..... it will be absorbed completely and you WILL gain weight from this. Mar212014 2 Posted April 1, 2014 My doctor told me almost the opposite. I was told that we may have to look at decreasing the dosages. I too notice my sleeping pills kick in quicker
Southjerzjoy 40 Posted April 1, 2014 I took nighttime cold medicine the other night and in about 10 minutes I could not speak without slurring or hold my eyes open. My husband thought it was pretty funny. Don't know if I helped at all but thought I'd share. It helped my cough. 1 inittothinit reacted to this
Big-Al 2 Posted April 1, 2014 No experience yet, but my doc told me to expect to have lower dose on most my meds after about 6 mo.
