Thanks Tivo, sorry commercials.

Recommended Posts

One of the biggest contributors I had with my obesity was watching TV. That entailed having to deal with all the commercials during the shows I liked to watch. Of course like many, I would take the opportunity during those commercials to spring up and raid the kitchen for food. (It didn't help that most of the commercials were about food and there were alot of commercials).

Enter Tivo. (DVR) Originally the thought was I would be able to record shows when I wasn't home for watching later. However the real benefit is in the time delay with live TV. I can let the TIVO record ahead on live TV and then start watching it about halfway into the program. That way I get to fast forward thru the commercials. No more trigger to jump up and run to the kitchen.

Additionally if I feel the urge to go to gym, or take a walk, I can act on it immediately, instead of procrastinating about waiting till a show is over. I just hit record and head to the gym.

One more little tool in my box to help me change my past bad eating habits. ;)

I don't think I've watched one show at its regularly scheduled time (except for maybe Saints games or the Superbowl) in the last year or two. I love zipping through commercials!

I've had a Tivo since 2003! I currently have 3 of them. I've also been a member of tivocommunity.com since 2003.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
