I did a full month of Optifast pre surgery it was hard but doable. I struggled more because the year prior I did 4 months optifast and only lost 12 lbs. By the time I had to do it preop I was so six of those sweet shakes. The good part about doing it the month before is after surgery yoy don't care about food anymore. :)

Good luck on your surgery!! I am almost 9 months out and thrilled with my results.

I did 2 weeks of Optifast preop. It got easier after the 4 the day. I kept reminding myself of the purpose of it and it helped me get through. The sugar free syrups really helped. Coconut with the chocolate shake was my favorite. It tested like liquid almond joy. I liked the bars as well but did not like the Soups.

Good luck!

I guess what ever option we choose the point is you have to change the habbits that got us there in the first place. As far as my diabetes goes my choice of surgery will only be a helping tool. I must keep to the program because if I dont I know this disease will be back on me just like before or possibly could be worse.

My sister had sleeve surgery it'll be two weeks this coming up Wednesday and to support her I went on a full liquid diet. Today is my 15th day on a full liquid diet. I plan on sticking with it until Saturday evening. I had roux-en-y gastric bypass 4-1/2 years ago my heaviest weight was 350 and I got down to 171. For the past two years I stick right around 200 pounds. I would like to get back down to 170 so her surgery was good incentive for me to start following the rules again sticking with my three meals a day and not snacking.

It helps to set small goals and I just repeat to myself, "thin feels so much better than anything tastes!".

Tip... bipro is by far the best whey Protein powder I've tried. It comes in unflavored so you can mix with Crystal Light or Mio and have any flavor you like :-)

That's excellent that you would do that for her (and yourself). She is lucky to have such support!

My daughter and I are going through this together so I understand the need for support.

I will definitely try the bipro, thanks for the tip.

Good luck to you and your sister.

That's so great you are so supportive of your sister. I had to do boost shakes for one month (one week left) and my fiancée has been replacing two meals a day with shakes which has been really helpful actually! So thankful to have a great support system and I bet she is too!

A good support system is very important. My daughter and I are also taking this journey together. She had her surgery 5 months ago RNY and is down over 140 lbs. So her knowledge is a huge asset to me. My Hubby is my biggest supporter. I really thought that continued cooking for him was going to be difficult but so far it has been fine. One thing I have noticed though is how often while cooking I atomicly go to lick my fingers. Ha! So many bad habbits. :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
