I'm so sorry, but you must try to get fluids in you. If you get dehydrated it will be much worse. The pain can be quite intense for a couple of weeks. Then the gas leaves, you get your staples out and it gets better. Take your pain meds with fluids, try deep breathing techniques. I wish I could be more help.

Bianca, have you tried Gas X strips? I get those pains sometimes, but they aren't constant. I still use my incentive spirometer several times a day that I brought home from the hospital just to keep my lungs pumping to their fullest and trying to move that gas around. I feel the most pain when I am just getting up from bed or from sitting awhile, then it seems to work itself out. I agree that you need lots and lots of Water or other fluids. I have heard that you can end up right back in the hospital for dehydration pretty quickly during this post-op period. Try the Gas X strips and see if they help. I hope you get some relief soon. Let us know!

I too am having a ton of pain. Mine is mostly where the staple/suture is on the left side of my belly. It's really only when I'm getting up and down and when I try to reach for something. I'm definitely not getting enough Water, but I feel like I'm drinking all of the time. This phase includes a regular popsicle or regular juice to keep my electrolytes in balance. The good news is that they don't nauseate me, but I get wicked cramps and diarrhea. Someone told me I would regret this for about 2 weeks. Right now I still feel a little regret, but it's slowly going away. I can say that I am VERY envious of those that were able to do normal things one the day of discharge! Good luck to everyone and you're all in my prayers

I have just made some Soup that was heavenly that I thought I would share. I'm assuming we are all still on full liquids, so hopefully this will sound good to some of you.

I just took low sodium cream of mushroom Soup and put it in my magic bullet with equal parts chicken broth and a shake or two of sea salt. Got it to the consistency I wanted, then heated it in microwave. Then I slowly added unflavored unjury to it a little at a time, mixed it well, and was able to get in about half a scoop into a nearly full mug before I could taste anything. It is so delicious!! You could also use cream of chicken soup, and I'm going to get some of that today. It is the first savory thing I have had with any uhmph in so long that it tastes like heaven!!

I'm also going out for the first time since surgery tonight. My step dad sings in his church choir and there is an Easter Cantata pre-show this evening. I'm not sure what I'll wear, but it will be nice to get out! Hope you all enjoy your weekend.

Thanks to everyone who are going through wat I am going through now it really helps me a lot and makes me feel less alone. I will try to get those gas x strips continue my fluids and also try some cream Soup. Today I was more active and walked more I tried low fat yogurt and sips of a Protein Shake but I didn't have the urge to finish it all. It's true your taste buds do really change . I really would rather eat something very cheesy but I know I am not able to. I'm just almost one week down so let's hope it gets better. Thanks everyone again for making me feel better.

Today is the worst day I've had yet. I'm sad, crying, oddly not hungry. I hope I just exhausted myself yesterday because I decided I felt great and would forgo a scheduled day off and drive to the office and do a few things. Now I can't get out of bed. I'm craving apple juice, maybe cause it was the only comforting thing at the hospital? I don't know really. Just needed to vent maybe.

Papagrimace, I know how you feel. Sunday evening was my weepy time. Felt overwhelmed, hungry but not hungry, dizzy because I'm sure I'm not getting enough to drink, and wondering if I would ever be able to sit down at the table and eat a normal dinner with my family. Yesterday was much better, but I overdid it and am paying for it today! Not blue today, just tired. Focusing on Water today. I know bouts of sadness are to be expected, and I'm sorry you had a rough one today. I'll pray for you and hope that tomorrow is tons better! Dont' lose sight of the reasons we all did this crazy thing. I just know it will be worth it in a few months.

Hello fellow April 7 people! I hope everyone is doing fantastic! I had my first follow-up appt yesterday and I have lost 25 lbs! I can't get over that! I was switched to a pureed diet yesterday and nothing has ever tasted so good! I still have to pain, but NOTHING like last week. Im finally starting to feel human again! The only bleak spot this week has been motion sickness. I suffered from it when I was a kid, but I haven't had any problems since. My mom took me on a ride and I have never been so nauseous in my life. I dry heaved for like 10 minutes afterward. Same thing when I went to my appt yesterday. I really hope this goes away! Has anyone else had any issues?

Hi everyone, I'm just checking in to see how all the April 7th people are coming along. I have my good days and bad days, mostly good though. I've been getting outside with my kids this week, and trying to find an activity that includes walking every day. I've finally figured out how to get all my Protein and Water in. It's been trial and error, but I finally got it.

I've been getting a sore feeling in my left upper abdomen the past two evenings. The heating pad usually takes care of it, but I was just curious to see if anyone else was having anything like that.

Crystal, while I haven't been getting motion sick, I have been getting a little nauseous lately. I had no nausea after the surgery, and now after I eat, I get a little queasy. It goes away on it's own after a little while. I'm hoping it will resolve all together soon.

Overall I am feeling good, and I go back to work Monday, and that is good. I don't really miss work, I just miss having somewhere to go everyday.

Can you all believe we are almost two weeks post op? That first week was kindof rough for me. Not regarding pain, I think I was just feeling very overwhelmed. The last few days have been so much better! Went back to work for part of the week, although I only work part time anyway. kfhf20, like you said, I didn't miss work, but it was nice to have somewhere to go! The first time I got fully ready nearly wore me out. I was really tired. I also developed thrush on my tongue, which has been a huge inconvenience. It is almost gone, thank goodness. I don't have a follow up with my surgeon until NEXT Friday, so one more week of liquids for me. Yee haw. My nurse said that as long as the Soups I have are mostly thin with tiny pieces of stuff, then that is ok. Egg drop Soup has saved me the last few days, and I went and got three different kinds at Panera this afternoon. I'll eat on those for the next few days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
