Recommended Posts

Just curious. I am 5 days post op banding. Everytime I eat, I feel extremely nauseated. food isn't hung- I just feel very sick to my stomach and have to lay down every single time I eat. Had anyone else experienced this??

I did from the anesthesia ... But only days 1&2. I was on my hands and knees so sick... But it passed. Maybe call your doctor just to check in and see if it's normal 5 days out? Hope you get to feeling better real soon....

Nausea is quite common for up to 2 weeks post surgery. But, most of us were not allowed to eat eggs, oatmeal for about 10-14 days post op? Maybe it's a little too soon for real food? Most of us were on shakes, liquids, Tomato Soups?

Are you taking your nausea meds?

My surgeon's food guidelines are a lot more lax post op than most. I was Clear Liquids day of surgery, next day I could move to mushies x2 weeks, and after those two weeks...regular food. I have PRN phenergan, but it totally knocks me out. I've ate very little mushy due to lack of appetite...but when I do get a little hungry, I go for some oatmeal, eggs, potatoes, etc...but it seems to upset my stomach just about everytime. It may be a very good idea to call the doc, and take it a little slower.

Sounds like you have received very good advice! I hope your doctor can help. I had bouts of nausea off and on for the first two weeks. But, I was all liquids during that time. The first time I had anything thicker than a watered-down Protein shake, I went running for my meds...but it settled down very quickly. Good luck! Keep us informed.

I woke up today and actually felt like a human! I've slowed down the the mushies and added in Soup, and Protein Shakes. My nausea kicks in from time to time...but I'm actually well enough to function in the real world. Thanks for all your advice! <3

jfc I was nauseated too for 5 days, they found I had thrush and had to take some liquid med (that was horrible) to get rid of it, check your tongue if its white you need to contact your doctor's office. Hope that isn't it, but so know how you feel-I felt the same way!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
