Bludtkr 21 Posted March 31, 2014 I'm wandering how well the B12 shots work. I am 6 wks post op and can't seem to make it past 4 hours a day without completely crashing. I'm getting enough fluids, Protein and all my Vitamins and Calcium. I'm doing cardio for 30 min 4 days a week. I just can't shake this extremely tired feeling. Any suggestions are appreciated. PdxMan 4,292 Posted March 31, 2014 When I was at about 6 weeks, I was feeling the same. I talked to my NUT and she suggested I increase my carbs by adding more veggies to the Soups I was pureeing. I was making ham and smoked lentil Soup, so I added carrots, onions and green Beans. I also made a veggie chicken Soup and added carrots and zucchini to my chili. About 4 days after doing this I noticed a marked improvement in my energy. After my 3 month blood work results came back, I was low on B12, even though I was doing the sublingual once a week, as directed. I was told to up it to every other day, but at my 6 month blood analysis, I was still low. I was then moved to the shots every two weeks and I have been hitting the right numbers since. This was 2 years ago. I can't say I really noticed much of a difference with the B12 as I did by increasing my good carbs. Are you tracking in MyFitnessPal, or the like? How many carbs are you hitting a day? Are you trying to do a low-carb diet?
shmily 424 Posted March 31, 2014 I have been told that the fatigue is a part of the WLS. but it will pass. Mine hits me right after my morning Protein Shake. Go figure
NMJG 1,266 Posted March 31, 2014 They work well. I take them monthly. I got lazy about it for a few months and it got bad Now I'm back on them and my outlook brightened considerably. I also take B complex pills and liquid B since my bout with deficiency.
macman 603 Posted March 31, 2014 I take a sublingual B12 daily. I will tell you that the first 8 weeks I was exhausted most of the time. It wasn't until I started on an unrestricted diet, with an Iron pill everyday that I began to have more energy. One of the things I have learned about exercise is that as I increase activity and exercise, I need to increase calories, otherwise I will stall.

I consulted my nut for the same and he upped my dosage. I now take a Vitamin b12 sublingual daily along with an increase in the carb intake. I have been feeling a lot more active than I used to. Personally I do not prefer shots.
bennettkathryn 1 Posted September 8, 2015 It’s pretty normal to feel fatigued this soon out so I wouldn’t worry TOO much about it if you’re being compliant and taking your vitamins/eating properly etc. Shots can definitely help, but a sublingual B12 is definitely a good idea if you haven’t tried it yet. I like Vita4Life’s sublingual because it contains B complex Vitamins and it is made to dissolve slower than most sublingual B12 sublinguals on purpose. This is so the sublingual doesn’t just dissolve in our saliva in 3 seconds and get swallowed, then become non absorbable. The price is unbeatable too. Check them out sometime. Good luck and keep up the good work! http://vita4life.net/bariatric-vitamins-b-12-sublingual.html
