Bumpy Road but making progress

Recommended Posts

I started my journey March 10, 2014 as surgery was complete that day. I had a lot of pain but the weight came tumbling off. So far 25 pounds down! I went from 4 diabetes pills to 1 per day and blood pressure went from avg of 140/90 to 110/73!!!!!

I did develop a complication over the last 2 days and spent today in the ER while the doctors figured it out. I had developed an infection under the main incision. It was drained and I'm on some antibiotics for the next week.

This is such an emotional roller coaster for me. I'm happy I did this but the pain and complication had me questioning everything. Has anyone else had these feelings?

For me it's not the diet change as much as it is ups and downs emotionally due to the pain and complication I had.

I had surgery march 24th and boy is it an emotional roller coaster! I have a love hate relationship so far lol. The pains and gas and upper back pain, shoulder pain, abdomen pain... Just being uncomfortable really makes you irritable and starts to get to you. It's frustrating because somedays I tolerate Fluid and walking really well and others I can't and struggle to get up and get going and have little energy or motivation. I was constipated and had my first bout of buyers remorse lol. I think everyone goes through this. All the change, hormones, temporary set backs... You will be ok we all will just gotta keep on keepin on. :) you are not alone!

Thanks for the encouragement!!!! It's been tough and I keep saying "a year from now I won't look back."

How's everything gone so far for you? I know it's painful. Have you had your first follow up yet?

So far so good except I found out I dump and the post op shakes they have me on do just that so it was miserable I did that for about 5 days before I realized what was gojng on. Today I did so good with Water though and that has been a first for me.

My surgery was March 4th and I feel you 100%. I haven't had any real complications, but I have had some bad days and some good days. This weekend was rough, Friday I over did it and I ended up being in pain all weekend. My husband and I took a day trip Saturday and I couldn't find anything I could eat. (That's my fault do to poor planning) and yesterday I just felt blah. I thought id feel better this far out and some days I just want this to be over with. I want to go work out, but it's been so cold on the days I've felt up to it. But I know in a few more months or maybe even weeks it will all be worth it. We just have to push through the bad parts to get to the good parts.

Sounds like we are all on our way just with little hiccups along the way. I appreciate everyone responding because I felt so alone in feeling this way!

Keep our heads up and we will be better before we know it!

I had my surgery 26 March 2014, so 12 days out now and doing well. I still get some left side pain but this is apparently cut muscle trying to heal. I too know its along road ahead and we have to have patience and persist after all we all persisted when the weight was piling on so lets have a positive outlook this time on the weight coming off! I have just gone from size 22 back to 20 as of today, 9 kilo down (or 19 pounds)

keep going we can do this, and its so great to have a forum like this to share !

Hi everyone. I had my bypass on the 31st of March. I haven't had much pain or discomfort yet, other than a little gas and slight pain when my belt buckle presses against my belly. Don't know if I'm lucky or this is the "calm before the storm". I have a question about BM's ... I'm still on liquids only, but when I advance to soft and then regular food, when should I expect them? And when I get 'normal' how frequently should I expect them? Do they occur as usual or a twice a month event?

My Dr said BM's should be every 2-3 days. I've been having them even while on full liquids (surgery march 25).

Make sure you have them because if you end up in pain and hunched over , more than likely you need to release ...I didn't have one till 4 weeks after my surgery and I thought it was normal since I wasn't eating really food... I was wrong ...muralax in your drink does the trick if you don't go for a few days

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
