manaia84 7 Posted March 31, 2014 My surgeon never told me of the signs to watch for when I came out of hospital I'm 12days postoperative and have moved me bowls once and I'm taking laxatives is this normal? Has anyone else had this issue???
Christian Zaccone 243 Posted March 31, 2014 Yes .. Remember you should be only on liquids for the most part so there is not much to move. If i remmeber correctly i moved them every 3-4 days././ Even now it is every 3-4 days. Just not not taking in much.. To be on safe side Id make a call to your nurse. manaia84 7 Posted March 31, 2014 They put me on puréed straight after I came out of hospital (5days later) but like I said I have had one very small bowl movement in 2weeks and taken laxatives just went to the pharmacy to make sure I had the right laxatives and have taken me straight to the hospital now waiting in ED cause apparently it shouldn't take that long or can cause toxin poison especially after surgery
Mrs. Whatsit 33 Posted March 31, 2014 You might try Colace, a stool softener. I know Constipation is very common after this surgery. There just isn't a whole lot of food to digest and move down the colon. I hope everything works out okay for you.
Jencovi 261 Posted March 31, 2014 There is an amazing Decaf herbal tea called Smooth Move tea. I have found it at most grocery stores in my area. I was 10 days post op with nothing and was taking colace and drinking a lot of Water. I drank two cups of smooth move tea (one in the morning and again in the afternoon) and by that evening I went. And I went multiple times that night and the next day. I now swear by it when I run to any issues.
Susysleever 265 Posted March 31, 2014 Haha. Smooth Move. Try Miralax, said the nurse. 1 joyann45 reacted to this
Mrs. Whatsit 33 Posted March 31, 2014 I completely forgot about Smooth Move. I have also used it and it works great.
Jencovi 261 Posted March 31, 2014 I completely forgot about Smooth Move. I have also used it and it works great. I was shocked. I didn't think it would work but now it's the only thing I will use. And it's not another pill or medicine to add to the list. Especially immediately post-op. Theres enough going on. (Said the other nurse, LOL!) 3 joyann45, Mrs. Whatsit and Susysleever reacted to this
Tammylb 174 Posted March 31, 2014 Does the Constipation start at the puréed food stage or soft food stage ?
Jencovi 261 Posted March 31, 2014 Does the Constipation start at the puréed food stage or soft food stage ? Not sure. I was on liquids and felt uncomfortable. By the time they advanced my diet I was already constipated.
allsleevedup 0 Posted April 1, 2014 During full liquids I had bowel movements, but during purée it doesn't always happen. You never know how much you could miss things such as pooping until you can't. I am going to look for that tea because Constipation is not fun.
