1Day1Life4Now 882 Posted March 31, 2014 I had a heel spur and pain in my achillies tendon prior to surgery. Not any better yet.
joatsaint 2,814 Posted March 31, 2014 I was never diagnosed with either, but pre-surgery I would have periods were I'd get these burning sensations in my heels, on the tops of my feet and on the outside of my knees. The pain would last for days or weeks and I'd be limping or on crutches. After I'd lost 60 or more lbs, I was having less trouble and the pain faded faster. Now that I'm down 145lbs I don't have the episodes of pain lasting for weeks. I still sometimes get pain in my feet, mostly after stressing my feet too hard on the walking track. But it only lasts a day or two at the most and I only have a mild limp. The days of being stuck in my chair for the weekend are long gone!
Reviewer 20 Posted March 31, 2014 I had plantar fasciitis for 4 years prior to my sleeve surgery January 29. I've lost a total of 60 pounds and my PF has resolved by 90%. So relieved I can now wear regular shoes.
Jeanne14 14 Posted March 31, 2014 I've had Plantar Faciitis for almost 10 years. I can't wait to see if it goes away!
Kindle 8,667 Posted March 31, 2014 I had severe Achilles' tendon pain. Could barely hobble around by the end of the day. It is totally gone. I do have bone spurs, but the right shoes helped with that even before surgery.
Bluesea71 698 Posted March 31, 2014 I blame both a heel spur and plantar fascitis for the main reason that I put on weight. I used to be an hour-a-day walker for decades. That was the main way that I kept my weight in check. I developed plantar fascitis and a heel spur on the bottom of my foot that looked like an arrow head. I could rock my foot back and forth and it felt like I was standing on a rock! It got to the point that if I exercised, I couldn't walk for 2-3 days after! I tried physical therapy and special gadgets with no luck. I finally elected to have corrective surgery on it in 2008. Best and worst decision I ever made. It relieved the planter fascitis (and the bone spur was shaved down) but I have never regained full strength in my left leg. I can't hold my weight on that leg if I'm up on my tippy toes and tend to favor the other leg. Regardless, now 6 years later I am able to walk as long as I want to without any pain. I know excess weight contributes to the problem. I would suspect weight loss would help and remember to stretch! stretch! stretch!
elfnow 277 Posted March 31, 2014 What I DO have is a lot of pain in my right leg and foot stemming from a car accident back in June. I broke my leg and the joints in my foot took a big shock when I hit the other car... Losing even the first 20 pounds helped tremendously!! And it also helped all the OTHER creaky achy stuff so now the problem with my foot/ankle is my CHIEF complaint and not way down on the list. I still have a stray bone fragment in my leg and the muscle isn't 100% at the right distal fibula.... But I can bind my foot (by tying my shoes properly and not being sloppy about my shoes) and it helps a LOT. When we first moved into this apartment I couldn't walk around without shoes because the floors are SO HARD (it's an ADA apartment so no carpet padding etcetera) .... Now I can walk barefoot about 70% of the time at home and I'm fine.
jatherley 126 Posted March 31, 2014 Yes, I had plantar fasciitis prior to surgery. I got good quality orthotic inserts just prior to surgery to help so I could work out better. I've lost over 100lbs and between the two my plantar fasciitis has completely resolved. I think it was a combination of the two. It also helped that in the beginning all the pain meds I was on (low pain tolerance) helped relive some pain in my feet to help get me started on my walking. 1 elfnow reacted to this
Sleeveless in seattle 208 Posted March 31, 2014 I had plantar fasciitis and the doc said it was from wearing cheap, non-supportive shoes. I switched to a well fitted pair of a Brooks tennis shoes and Naturalizer dress shoes and it slowly went away. There are also good stretches for it I found online. Been gone for years now even though I've been in the 300's this whole time. On a side note, my 110 lb friend has it too.
Kennedy 100 Posted March 31, 2014 I have both and 100 pounds later it is sooo much better.
awold0 246 Posted March 31, 2014 Prior to surgery? Did the surgery/weight loss help? Yes I had both also. I have been pain free for months!
buplee 556 Posted March 31, 2014 I suffered from both but haven't had any issues since being sleeved.
FitnFabfor2014 358 Posted March 31, 2014 Prior to surgery? Did the surgery/weight loss help? I have/had?? heel spurs. I haven't gone to the pediatrist to have my feet checked recently. I had to have shots in my heels because they were so painful. My pediatrist said it had a lot to do with my weight, but I must say since I have lost all this weight my feet do not hurt.....at all. I was told the next option was surgery to have them shaved down (that was a few years back), so I suffered through it.
