Removal in 10 days

Recommended Posts

Anyone else have to do a strict pre-op diet? I can only have 600-800 cal a day, liquid Protein Drinks as meals, and as much as I want of sugar-free Jello, drinks, and Popsicles. I have to have 80-120 gms of Protein. I am supposed to do this for 2 weeks before surgery & I'm only on day 6 and have lost 7lbs! I am so ready for this band to come out...I'm tired of the pain & the stress of this slip and hiatal hernia....but I'm starving!!! :((

Sorry for the rant, just had to get that out lol.

Seems odd since it's a simple surgical procedure to remove? Especially if you've been able to maintain most of your weight loss since being banded?

HI!

I didn't have to do a strict pre-op diet for my lapband removal, just the regular not eating after midnight.

But I didn't have a slip. I had mine removed because of intolerance.

So, I imagine there may be a different pre-op protocol based on what the issue is.

Hang in there! You're almost done :)

This will also give you a headstart in continuing on to your weightloss goal without your band's assistance.

Hunger is no fun, but it's important to follow your surgeons instructions.

He may also be making sure your liver is nice and small when he operates -- just like when he implanted the band.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Your day will get here!

I didn't have to do a preop diet for removal, since I hadn't been able to eat much of anything for months leading up to the surgery.

The reason for this is to make the liver less slippery so the instrument that grasps it and keeps it out of the way is able to do so. It's a key part of laparoscopic surgery.

Best of luck to you!!!

Since I had emergency removal I didn't have a pre-op diet. I did have egg whites a week before removal but that was they only solid thing I'd had in weeks. I definitely was not getting in enough Protein and my bloodwork from the ER showed it all. I'm close to 43 hours post op. Still struggling to get in protein, im on Clear Liquids so no shakes for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
