March 27th 2014 band

Recommended Posts

I tired very easily for about a week. Don't get discouraged, your weightloss will come. You are still in the healing phase. What types of food have you been eating?

Delove32 I've been doing 3 200 cal Protein Shakes a day and Clear Liquids. I'm supposed to do this til week 4 post op which is next week....honestly in the middle if the day if I get hungry I've had a 1/2 cup of vegetarian refried Beans though (my job is active and I walk about 7 miles a day so I feel like this isn't all that unreasonable)...thoughts?

I was banded on 03.18.2014 and have lost 30 lbs. I've had one fill and seem to be slowing down on weight loss. I'm also getting hungry. Any thoughts from the recent banders? Stephanie in Indiana

I found that my weight loss slowed down once we went to solids. I was banded on 3/27 and had my 3rd fill last week. I'm averaging about 3 lbs every 2 weeks and am down a total of 25 lbs (I gained 5 back after I switched from mushies to solids). I wish it was coming off faster, but this is not a sprint, it's a marathon. When I find myself getting hungry (my doctor says every 4 hours is when we should be hungry) I grab something quick that has a good amount of Protein like nuts or even a hard boiled egg. I'm doing a heavy Protein "diet" to help keep myself sustained longer. Is your diet consisting of heavy Proteins and things that help fill you and hold that feeling longer periods of time?

Hi Stephanie,

Congrats on your weight loss so far! I was banded on 3/13/14 and I have lost 36 pounds so we are on a very similar road :) I had a difficult time losing weight during April for whatever reason---maybe moving onto solids after being on liquids for nearly a month? Anyhow, I just had my 6th fill today--I've been getting them every two weeks. I did not feel restriction until my 4th fill and that is when I started to lose weight more rapidly. I think I have finally found the right spot but I'm still kind of experimenting too. With the added restriction, I am not nearly as hungry. The pain I feel when I eat too much is just terrible so it has taught me to avoid overeating at all costs (I have gotten sick twice). I am still doing at least one Protein shake a day which my doctor said is crucial in this weight loss process.

Hope this helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
