just banded and regretful

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was just banded two days ago. And the thought of having to go through surgery again terrifies me. The pain is aweful and I don't know how long it will last. My surgeon told me my band would last about ten years, at the time I thought that was great. now that i've gone through surgery the idea of going through it scares me. Do we all really have to get them removed at somepoint. I guess it's the post-op blues i am having.

I'm sorry to hear you're in THAT much pain. It Does get better. I'm more shocked that your doctor said the band was only good for 10 years.

Has anyone else been told that?

Hang in there, the What Have I Done, will pass, day three is when it hit me, but I love my band.

My doctor said that my band should last about 20 years before having to be replaced / removed.

Hang in there. I'm currently on Day 8, and the discomfort from the surgery has almost completely gone away. I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to make it another week on liquids....

Hello - I am going to be banded on April 17th - may I ask where your discomfort is located? Inside or at the point of entry on the abdomen? Was your band laproscopically done?

I will say a prayer for you - and I hope you start feeling better soon.

Sincerely,

dragonfly-wings

Wow, Thanks for the reply's. I just have to get over some of my fears I guess. It's silly really. I am glad to hear that other surgeons say twenty years. My pain is really only when getting in and out of bed or a sitting position. My pain meds kicked in so i am going to walk, because that's what i've learned from this group. Thank you for the encouragement.

My dr said the band was for life barring any complications.

I am 16 days post op and the best advice is to walk, walk, walk for the pain. By day 3 I was also doing a lot better, even sleeping back in my waterbed. And I can't say enough about gas-x strips. By day 5, 95% back to my old self.

Hang in there, it does get better. Welcome to bandland.

Hello, my doc told me its a lifelong.

Newband I really have had bad pain while getting up or sitting but its because I was trying to get up like I was used to.When I was in the hospital the nurse thaught me how to get up after surgery. and also the beds that we have home are much lower than the ones in hospitals, and higher bed helps with standing up.The pan had been fading for like 5-6 days and afterwards I was even able to sleep on my tummy.

Dont worry the pain will go away.

Well, good for you!!! I never really went through the "what the hell have I done to myself" phase after surgery, but I sure wondered if I was making the right decision beforehand.

Keep on walking, and keep checking in with us, we're here for you!:) :clap2:

Here's my thought......

The band may be just a like breast implants......Does anyone really know how long they last.

I was unstood it was for life, if you don't have complications or band eroision. Don't worry the pain will ease each day. I slept in my recliner for a week, it made it easier to sit and get up. I don't think you will regret it after the pain is gone. My c-section hurted way more than this. Good Luck!!!

I had 3 c-sections, and like Loser28 they were painful, the band post op TO ME, was a piece of cake. I guess I toughned up from the c-sections.

The first week is the worst - by two weeks I felt 100% back to normal. I have to say - I don't care how long the band is good for - I'll keep going back for a new one for life if I have to. The reason - I love the band and can't imagine not having it. A friend of mine from my support group said she had a small complication and had to have all the liquid removed for 1 week. She said the feeling of hunger came roaring back. I don't want to ever feel that again. Don't get me wrong - sometimes I really miss a hamburger but I wouldn't change my new life for that beef!

I wasn't given a timelime for mine, with the exception of the risk of slippage/erosion being about 10% in a ten to 20 year span, which is pretty good odds. But if the rules are followed to the letter, you should be fine. :)

I was out of bed the night of my own surgery and in very little pain. I am two weeks out from my own banding.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
