How long did you take off work for your VSG?

Recommended Posts

Everyone recovers at a different pace - I actually had my surgery done on an outpatient basis by a very qualified doctor in Las Vegas (Dr. Umbach - he was ranked #2 on Newsweek's Top Bariatric Surgeons list). I was in at 6:00 am and out by noon that same day, resting peacefully at my condo. That was on a Thursday. I took exactly 3 pain pills during my recovery and that was so I could at night. That was it.

I was perfectly capable of working from home starting the following Monday - no one in my office knew then or knows now that I had surgery. In fact, other than my parents, husband, son and best friend, no one knows I had surgery, including my two brothers, one that lives one mile from me.

My recovery was seemless - not everyone's recovery is like that. My job consists of work on the computer, as Lipstick says above, I can do my job from the couch, bed, desk, kitchen table or coffee shop - no one knows where I am. Working 1/2 days that first week allowed me time to rest, walk and recover. Maybe that isn't for everyone, like the poster above me, but it's what I did and and it worked for me.

WLS's are like snowflakes...no two are the same.

How long did you take off work for your VSG?

@@pattyor

"tried and true" statement......

"the one thing we all have in common is that we're all different"!!!! :)

as you've read above, people have taken anywhere from a few days to a few weeks etc

the doc that told you that people might have surgery on a friday, and work on monday is/can be true

in many cases - people stayed home for awhile, (a week, whatever)

not necessarily due to any "serious" complications

many people are extremelllly tired, weak et al

if they have the sick time - they will/can use it

many people can afford financially/or sick leave to take off from work longer

for me - i immediately continued my "job"

i'm retired ;)

its good to rest, relax - take care of you!!!! :)

then of course, their are some slackers/ goofballs that just don't want to work!!!

you probably need/should tell your office (for their planning) about how long you will need to take off

maybe say 2-3 weeks, and go back sooner/earlier if you are able to

listen to your body

don't overdue

i've heard from informed sources that April 14th is the best day to have surgery ;)

good luck

speedy recovery :)

kathy

Yes ma'am April 14th is the magical day lol....I can't wait and can't believe I will become a sleever that day.

I am a nursing student and expected back on the Thursday after my Monday surgery. Not to sure if THAT will happen, although it's just 4 hours of listening to a lecture. However I am due back in a pediatric clinical that following Monday. They usually are not to extensive, just a lot of observing. Hopefully I feel up to it. I can not miss more than 1 day during this rotation. I figure if someone drives me and I have pain control I should be okay.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
