Protein Drinks

Recommended Posts

Isopure zero carb chocloate. Have had one every day for the last 6 months.

Low carb and 2 scoops is 50 grams of Protein.

It may seem pricier, but when you consider one scoop is 25 grams of Protein. You can use half the amount and get the same amount of protein as cheaper stuff gives you with two scoops.

I was told that I'll only have Protein Shakes during my liquid phase and once I move on to pureed and mushy food, I will add Protein Powder but my liquid between meals will be Water or flavored water. It sounds like some people keep drinking shakes indefinitely, is that right?

Hrhlaurie, I went for a follow up today with the nurse practitioner. I'm 5 weeks out now and starting regular food. Even though everything I eat is Protein I'm still not getting in enough protein! She told me that it is common for people to supplement with the protein powder or ready made Protein Drinks for 6 months or better.

I am almost a year out from surgery (6 weeks to go) and I still drink a Protein shake for Breakfast. I have several of the Protein powders and premixed shakes already listed. I also add fruit to the vanilla (or fruit nectar) to change the flavor as well as get a serving of fruit in a couple times a week. This is my routine and I plan on continuing this even when I am on maintenance. When I am stalling on weight loss, I drink a shake for Breakfast and another for my evening meal. lunch and an afternoon snack are the only "real food" when I am trying to get the weight to come off. I try to keep my protein intake at 60 gms a day and calories around 1000. I avoid the shakes that have more than 10 carbs per serving.

I am 5 weeks out and also have a shake in the morning... Just easier to get at least 20 grams in with no problem.. I like designer whey protein.. Comes i vanilla, choc and strawberry...i like it because it isnt to sweet (a big issue with me) favorite combos for me are vanilla Protein with half a banana and a tablespoon of PB2 powder or vanilla protein and frozen mango chunks ( trader joes )

Yummy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
